Trapeziectomy

This is an operation to treat arthritis at the base of the thumb, which is extremely common. A lot of the pain caused by this condition is from ‘bone on bone’ arthritis. The operation involves removing a small bone (the trapezium) at the base of the thumb. This leave a space so the bottom of the thumb isn’t rubbing against another arthritic bone.
